论我国中小港口现代物流发展策略

文章通过对我国中小港口物流发展的研究，发现中小港口要发展现代物流存在着一些问题，如基础设施不足、缺乏统一规划、港口功能单一等。通过对现状的思考与分析，提出了中小港口要发展现代物流首先要认清自己的服务定位，在完善港口基础设施建设的同时，整合资源并与相关港口加强合作，发展综合物流的建议。     

Pricing options on discrete realized variance with partially exact and bounded approximations

We derive efficient and accurate analytic approximation formulas for pricing options on discrete realized variance (DRV) under affine stochastic volatility models with jumps using the partially exact and bounded (PEB) approximations. The PEB method is an enhanced extension of the conditioning variable approach commonly used in deriving analytic approximation formulas for pricing discrete Asian style options. By adopting either the conditional normal or gamma distribution approximation based on some asymptotic behaviour of the DRV of the underlying asset price process, we manage to obtain PEB approximation formulas that achieve a high level of numerical accuracy in option values even for short-maturity options on DRV.     

Modelling airline flight cancellation decisions

In order to predict airline responses to Traffic Management Initiatives (TMIs), and reveal the underlying preference structures that shape these responses, we study US domestic airlines’ cancellation decisions in response to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA)’s TMIs, in particular, to Ground Delay Programs (GDPs). By observing the actual flight-cancellation choices made by airline dispatchers, the airlines’ cancellation utility functions can be inferred through the use of binary choice models. The model captures how delays to a given flight and potential delay savings to other flights affect flight cancellation decisions. We also find larger, fuller, less frequent, shorter-distance, and spoke-bound flights are less likely to be cancelled, and that there is inter-airline variation in flight cancellation behaviour.

EXPERIMENTAL EVIDENCE ON ENGLISH AUCTIONS: ORAL OUTCRY VERSUS CLOCK

This paper tests experimentally, in a common value setting, the equivalence between the Japanese English auction (or clock auction) and an oral outcry auction where bidders are allowed to call their own bids. We find that (i) bidding behaviour is different in each type of auction, but also that (ii) this difference in bidding behaviour does not affect significantly the auction prices. This lends some support to the equivalence between these two types of auction. The winner's curse is present: overbidding led to higher than expected prices (under Nash bidding strategies) in both types of auction. Although interesting and encouraging, the results clearly indicate that further research is necessary, particularly with a modified experimental design.
